All Africa Games: Siasia Picks Arsenal Star, Iwobi, 20 Others For Gabon [SEE LIST]


Dream Team VI coach, Samson Siasia on yesterday picked his 21-man squad for this weekend’s All-Africa Games qualifying match against Gabon in Libreville.
Of the squad, former U-20 international Gero Abdullahi was the surprise exclusion from the 21 –man list released by the Head Coach of U-23 National Team. Others who failed to make the cut are Aminu Umar, who arrived late to camp and Warri Wolves’ forward Freedom Omofonma who also arrived late after his club’s CAF Confederation Cup game in Burkina Faso.

According to the team’s Media Officer, Timi Ibikaboro, the list of 16 home boys and five overseas- based professionals was made up of two goalkeepers Daniel Emmanuel and Akande Abiodun while the defenders are Obanor Erhun, Okorom Stanley, Oduduwa Segun, Sincere Seth and Atanda Sodiq.

In the midfield are Azubuike Okechukwu, Godwin Savior, Tiongoli Tonbara, Saliu Popoola, Oshobe Oladele, Mohammed Usman and Kingsley Sokari

The attack line is led by Etebo Oghenekaro, Ajayi Junior, Peter Onyekachi,‎ Iwobi Alex and Paul Onwachu.

The team is expected to depart the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this evening for Gabon aboard an Ethiopia Airline flight.
Meanwhile, NFF Executive Board member, Barrister Chris Green, will lead the U-23 National Team delegation to Saturday’s 11th All-Africa Games qualifying match against the U-23 national team of Gabon in Libreville.

Already, the NFF had provided all details concerning the trip to the Embassy of Nigeria in Libreville, with mission staff to receive the delegation on arrival on Thursday, and to mobilise the Nigerian community in Libreville to support the team during the match.

The match will be played on the natural turf of Stade Augustin Monedan a Sibang in Libreville, starting from 3.30pm Gabon time (2.30pm Nigeria time) on Saturday, 21st February.

The second leg will take place in Nigeria on 7th March, with the winner to take on the winner of the Zambia/Madagascar fixture for a place at the Men’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games, scheduled for Brazzaville, Congo, 11th – 21st July, 2015.
