Liverpool are set to seal the arrival of former defender Alvaro Arbeloa this summer, according to the Metro.
The 32 year-old is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer, having only started six league matches so far this season.
Carvajal is the favoured right-back this term, and is now expected to be allowed to leave on a free in the close season, with Chelsea and Arsenal both monitoring his situation.
The Spaniard left Liverpool to rejoin the European champions for a reported €4 Million back in 2009, having been a former youth product of the Castilla and now looks set for his third transfer between the two sides.
Liverpool’s current first choice right-back is out of contract at the end of the season, and is expected to leave the club to move overseas.
The club do have Jon Flanagan and Javi Manquillo in the squad challenging for a starting place at full-back, with the latter having joined on loan from Atletico Madrid until the end of the season.
